The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly on Wednesday the 16th of June, 2022, engaged its development partners to present the assembly’s 2022-2025 Medium-Term Development Plan and the progress of its implementation in the first quarter of 2022 and the challenges therein.  

The Catholic Relief Services collaborated with the Metro Assembly to organize the consultative meeting to further deepen the collaboration between management and departments of the assembly and the development partners in the metropolis.

The Tamale Metro Development Planning Officer, Mustapha Ibrahim, said the meeting was to look at the status of implementation of planned activities for first quarter of 2022, challenges and the way forward.

“The Assembly prepared Medium-Term Development Plan which span from 2022-2025; which has been annualize – every year we take an annual action plan and out of the annual action plan, we have plan for implementation of activities and programs on quarterly basis, so that at the end of every quarter, you engage stakeholders to find out how far you have gone with the implementation of plans” he explained.

He noted the planning unit takes the responsibility to compile activities implemented on health, education and all other departments and present the summary form to the development partners in order to solicit their support in the implementation process.

“Definitely the assembly is challenged in terms of funding but when we are able to bring development partners together, there are some areas they may express interest in supporting; so that, that way we would have increased the number of projects and programs implemented in the metropolis.”

Mr. Mustapha observed most of the challenges affecting the implementation process have to do with logistics and funds and the intervention of the NGOs will harmonize the issues.

“There are various activities we have been able to implement to inure to the benefit of the people but some have not been able to implement and those that have not been implemented would be rolled over into the second quarter” he added.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon Sule Salifu, in his remarks thanked the development partners for their continuous support and partnership to mitigate the development bottlenecks and improve on the socioeconomic livelihood of the populace in the metropolis and the nation as a whole.
