The COP Fan Club, a youth group with affiliation to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to maintain Mr. Seidu Iddrisu Iddisah as the Commissioner General of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
According to the group, the tenure of Mr. Iddisah has been by unparalleled achievements and transformative leadership, stating his unwavering dedication, strategic vision, and commitment to modernization and efficiency have propelled Ghana’s customs operations to new heights.
“Under Mr. Iddisah’s leadership, revenue collection has soared to unprecedented levels, bolstered by innovative initiatives such as Customs to Customs cooperation with Ghana’s top trading partners. His efforts to leverage technology, foster collaboration between border agencies, and establish monitoring teams have enhanced border security and transparency, resulting in significant gains for the nation.”
Addressing a news conference in Tamale on Thursday (April 18, 2024), the youth further gave compelling reasons why the government should rescind the decision to replace Mr. Seidu Iddisah with one Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo.
Spokesperson of the group, Fuseini Tijani said the Commissioner General has helped mentor and facilitated the recruitment of young people including party members into the CEPS setup.
“So, we find it disheartening that the government will want to replace such a man with an NDC apparatchik.”
He said the appointment Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo raises serious concerns about his past actions and political allegiance, alleging that, he recruited and trained thugs of the opposition National Democratic Congress to cause mayhem during the Chereponi by-election among others.
“It was the same Ayorrogo who penalized a military officer under his supervision severely for the mere crime of drinking Kalyppo to the cameras, a social media craze that erupted after our party’s then Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo was captured sipping the popular fruit drink during a campaign tour prior to election 2016” he stressed.
