The Northern Regional Director of Youth Employment Agency - Mr Haruna Mohammed

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) will organize the 3rd Job and Career fair in the northern regional capital, Tamale, next week.

The initiative is for persons seeking job opportunities, internship, career guidance and or advice.

The Northern Region YEA Director, Mr Haruna Mohammed told THE CUSTODIAN in an exclusive interview that this will also be an opportunity for entrepreneurship pitching for the Ghanaian youth in the region.

He disclosed management of the YEA have so far scouted about 80 job opportunities and the window is still opened for more institutions and private sector organizations who have job opportunities for the teeming youth to join.

According to the YEA Boss, a combination of companies from Accra will move it to up to about 200 job opportunities, explaining these jobs will be available on the 28th October, 2021, where we will invite people seeking to be employed and get permanent jobs to come out with their curriculum vitae (CVs) to meet with the prospective companies.

“… They will meet with them (companies), they will look at their CVs and if they are suitable for the jobs that they have declared, they do instant interviews and recruit them. The other thing is that these job seekers will have the opportunity to also interact with companies – perhaps may be they might not get job opportunities from them but they will get the opportunity to network with them for future job preferences and they will also load their details with the job centre platform where employers are also connected and jobs may come behind the scenes.”

Job and Career fair is non-political

However, Mr Haruna Mohammed indicated the job and career fair platform is apolitical but rather it is a platform that connects employers and employees together.

He further encouraged the general public particularly the youth and business operators to come out with good business proposals for the entrepreneurship pitching, adding the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) and other government institutions with funding to support such good plans that can change the face of the local economy.

Meanwhile, Haruna Mohammed has been working with the YEA since 2017 together with the newly elected Tamale Mayor, Sule Salifu. He is now appointed as the substantive Director of the employment agency for the northern region.

“As I have taken over as the new Director of the Agency in the region, I am not going to deviate from the act that establishes the Youth Employment Agency, 2015, (Act 887) which states that we should move people from the state of unemployment to a state of employment – which has been the major priority of our game”
