Member of Parliament for Gushegu, Hassan Tampuli, has described former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the most capable leader to steer both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ghana toward the “promised land.”
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, October 23, shortly after he and 62 Minority MPs formally declared their support for Dr Bawumia, Tampuli stressed that their endorsement was based on careful evaluation rather than sentiment.
“We have worked with Hon. Bryan Acheampong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Yaw Adutwum, and Mr Kwabena Agyepong. We have seen them, we have weighed their capacity and their likelihood of capturing political power for the NPP,” Tampuli stated
“In all humility, we do not make judgments in a vacuum. We have weighed their strengths and weaknesses, and we believe Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the best person to lead us to the promised land.”
Tampuli’s comments reflected the broader views of the caucus, which commended Dr. Bawumia’s discipline, resilience, and visionary leadership. MP for Mampong, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, speaking on behalf of the group, described Dr Bawumia as “the embodiment of the NPP’s next phase—one rooted in competence, innovation, and unity.”
Adding a light-hearted metaphor, Tampuli likened Dr Bawumia to household brands recognised for their trustworthiness and appeal
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is our Omo, he is our Pepsodent. He is the one we have marketed more,” he remarked, highlighting the former Vice President’s visibility and connection with the Ghanaian electorate.
The MPs called on party delegates to unite behind Dr Bawumia, citing his proven track record and capacity to unify the party while inspiring national confidence. With the 2028 elections approaching, their collective endorsement signals a strong internal momentum for continuity and renewal within the NPP.
