The National Organizer Aspirant - Eric Amoako Twum

A National Organizer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party, Eric Amoako Twum, has said the governing party must do things differently to recapture most of the lost parliamentary seats in the 2020 general elections.

The NPP National Communications Team member said the party is no more attractive to the floating voter in Ghana and there is also apathy among party members, something he indicated can be overturned with fresh ideas and dynamism.

He argued the recent fisticuffs in the Ghanaian parliament is owing to the hung parliament which in his view leaves a lot more for the party to worry about, adding the impasse is hampering government business and making the NPP unpopular.

He pointed out that the party continues to apportion certain seats to the National Democratic Congress as their reserve, something he indicated has psychological and mentally imposed some limitations on the party.

“The party has made us today. And as true patriots we cannot look on for our dear party to run into complete shambles. We cannot fold our hands and zip our mouths if the base of the party is weakened through the actions and inactions of certain top party officers. The party belongs to all of us”.

According to Mr. Twum, the party dashed out some seats in the northern region to the opposition NDC in the 2020 elections as if there was no desire to win those parliamentary seats.

The former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority made these remarks in Tamale where he formally launched his campaign to contest the NPP National Organizer position on Monday, May 16, 2022.

However, the Communication Specialist believe that with proper plans and result-oriented strategies in place, no parliamentary seat will be impossible for the Busia/Dankwa/Dombo tradition to win.

“This is a tradition we intend to sacrifice for and we cannot fail in this regard, our failure will be a huge disappointment to our forefathers and founders who reposed trust in us as a generation to uphold the virtues of the NPP political party.”

Break the 8 mantra

According to him, the mantra of breaking the eight means the party would have to start to do things differently and bring power back to the grassroot.

As the National Organizer, Mr. Eric Twum stated his will work hand-in-hand with the other national executives to correct such mindset in the party moving to the 2024 general election, stating vehemently the party has won some of these seats and stand the chance of winning them again.

Respect for Party structure

Eric Amoako Twum said structures of the party must be respected to enable the smooth running of the party and as National Organizer aspirant; he has the acumen of connecting all other wings of the NPP to work efficiently as a whole.

“The man whose house we host party meetings; the woman who cooks for the party people during campaigns and the man who wore party T-shirt everywhere during elections to market the party must be all be recognized. They must feel part of the party”.
