The world is currently confronted with a new kind of virus that threatens the very survival of humanity.

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has now infected over 170,000 people globally, killing about 7,000 persons so far.

Apart from threat to life, the coronavirus is negatively affecting the global economy with developing countries like Ghana unfortunately expected to be severely hit.

Ghana has reported six cases of the pandemic as of March 14, 2020 and the threat of recording more cases is painfully becoming a reality.

The coronavirus, we dare say, has no political lenses nor discriminatory powers to determine who are affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to attack.

This is why, as a country, we should not dilute the precautionary measures with needless politics as often done with issues of national importance.

We should name and shame any unscrupulous politician who will want to use this deadly disease to gain political advantage ahead of the 2020 general election.

Ghanaians should not allow politicians to gamble with their lives as the country battles to curb the spread of the deadly disease.

We should all support Government of Ghana and health authorities to fight this dangerous disease.

Even though the state is taking measures to deal with the menace, a lot depends on us as citizens to play our collaborative roles to help in this fight.

Several interventional programmes have been rolled out by Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

It is therefore incumbent on us as a civic and national duty, to help educate the masses on these precautionary measures.

We should all show relentless commitment to enlightening the populace on the need to stay clean and healthy in order to keep coronavirus at bay.

Accordingly, THE CUSTODIAN is calling on all well-meaning Ghanaians to join in this fight through contact tracing, lest we all suffer a fate unprecedented in human history.

The media should take a lead role in this regard without creating fear and panic in the system.
