The Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in the northern region has arrested Corporal Suleman Gbana Ayuba at the Tamale District Police to assist police investigations.

The Regional Crime Officer, Supt Kwabena Otuo Acheamong confirmed the arrest Tuesday, 28 April.

He said five other suspects have also been arrested in connection with a robbery attack on a foreign currency exchanger on the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway on April 15.

According to Supt Otuo Acheampong, three of the suspects, namely: Adam Siba, Alhassan Issa and Baba Issa were arraigned in Tamale circuit Court and remanded to reappear on May 7.

He added that the other two suspects, Haruna Safianu and Alhassa Iddrisu sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital under armed guard.

The police, Mr. Acheampong indicated,  recovered a Hyundai salon car and an Apsonic motor bike from the criminals.

However, police accounts revealed that the Apsonic motor bike was traced to Corporal Suleman Gbana Ayuba of the Tamale District police, which necessitated his arrest and currently on detention.

The police say investigations are underway to establish the involvement of the officer in this particular issue.

The police have therefore encouraged the public to volunteer relevant information for  the necessary action to be taken against those involved.

“Any person with information on the activities of these suspects, or any other criminal activities should contact the police for necessary action” he stressed.
