The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Savelugu constituency, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has procured an additional water tanker for constant supply of clean water to the constituents in order to reduce the impact of the prevailing water crisis in the area.

The gesture is the second of its kind the aspiring NPP candidate has provided as part of her personal interventions to mitigate the water situation in the Savelugu municipality.

She previously embarked on the construction of about 25 mechanized boreholes which are at various stages of completion across the electoral areas.

The Savelugu water crisis has persisted for decades now and in the past resulted in the outbreak of guinea worm. The epidemic brought a serious public health crisis in the area which undermined the socioeconomic growth of the community as well as teaching and learning.

The NPP Member of Parliament hopeful believes the situation requires pragmatic solutions so that the people will no longer have to use productive hours to find water on daily basis.

Women and children mostly travel long distances in search of water.

“Water as they say is life and as a woman myself, I am fully aware of the challenges our mothers and young siblings go through on daily basis to get water before any other activity in the morning.”

“I understand how this water challenge in the constituency is also affecting school children because they have to help their parents in search of water before preparing for school. I am committed to find lasting solution to the problem and this gesture clearly demonstrates my commitment to diligently serve my people” she emphasized.

Hajia Fatahiya said one of her immediate action plans when elected as the Member of Parliament on December 7, 2024, is to construct community water systems and implement innovative water management technology to alleviate the plight of the people and improve the socioeconomic livelihood of the inhabitants.

The interventions of the MP hopeful are in line with the UN sustainable development goal 6 which advocates for the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all by 2030.

Meanwhile, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz when elected in this year’s general election will become the second Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NPP as well as the second female candidate to win the seat after the longest serving National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament, Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo, whose tenure lasted for 20years.
