Officials of the electoral commission at the Tamale Central Collation Center

The two leading political parties, the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress in the Tamale Central constituency have both challenge results of two polling stations during the collation process Tuesday midnight at the constituency collation centre.

The NPP was the first to raise red flags about an issue of over voting at the Miskiyya E/A primary school at Aboabo in respect of the presidential results.

Representatives of the NPP at the collation center

The party’s representatives at the collation room requested officials of the electoral commission to set aside results of the polling station until the irregularity was rectified and an amicable resolution on reach on the matter.

According to the NPP representatives, the party’s polling station agent at the center declined to sign the declaration sheet in protest of the anomaly and therefore they are opposing to the addition of the results into the collated results.

However, this development provoked representatives of the National Democratic Congress to also refer the EC back to an earlier complaint of an error in totaling figures at a particular polling station identified as Yari Naa’s House.

Representatives of the NDC at the collation center

The NDC led by its former Northern Regional Secretary, Lawyer Rauf also insisted the EC should withdraw results of that particular voting center.

Both parties consequently agreed both results should be put aside for later deliberations to find permanent solution to the two situations. Accordingly, the EC officials adhered to the decision of the two parties.

Nevertheless, the standoff did not actually prevent the collation process to continue. The Tamale Central had a total of 168 polling stations doted across the constituency.
