President Nana Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given assurance that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will do everything necessary to ensure that the next presidential candidate of the party wins the 2024 general election to break the eight-year jinx for governing parties.

He said even though the country is facing challenges, largely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, government has laid a solid foundation to surmount the challenges for NPP to win the next polls for the country to grow from strength to strength.

“So our objective, our responsibility is to do whatever is necessary to ensure that, that victory is forthcoming”, President Akufo-Addo reiterated.

President Akufo-Addo gave the assurance yesterday during the celebration of the 29 Anniversary of the NPP.

The event was graced by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP National Chairman Freddie Blay, General Secretary John Boadu and other party big shots.

Speaking on the theme: ‘NPP @: A Tradition for Stability, Prosperity & Continuity’, the President noted that the political tradition that was borne out the struggle for independence has gone through a lot of challenges and turbulence but has consistently emerged stronger and stronger.

“So, today, the challenges that confront our country, the difficulties that we have been plunged into by COVID, is going to give us the opportunity to grow stronger and stronger and that strengthening of our party is going to give us one thing and I’m confident about it that the 7th December 2024, the new NPP presidential candidate is going to win the election of 2024.

He said the country must not be allowed to retrogress after so much progress in the last few years.

“We have to continue our way forward in Ghana. We cannot accept the backsliding that takes place every now and then. It hasn’t benefitted our nation and it will not benefit our nation.

“Foundations that we have laid today, the prosperity of our nation are going to be shaken if again, through our own fault, we allow the path of progress to be diverted.

“Yes, the nation is facing challenges, difficulties, but these challenges can and would be overcome.

“They can be overcome because we have the policies, we have the programmes and we have the values that would enable us to continue our journey of development in freedom”, President Akufo-Addo stated, urging the party to work hard to ensure the next NPP presidential candidate wins the 2024 polls.

The NPP, he pointed out, has dedicated itself to advancing ideals, values that were established after the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) on day 4th August, 1947 towards the country’s independence, which is now celebrated as Founders’ Day.

“So I’m very happy that I have the opportunity as President to celebrate this day because my whole life has been dedicated to the struggle of our party and I’m happy that on such an occasion, one of the valiant men of that that, 28th July 1992, he was then our national treasurer and did so much to bring to being, the certificate that we received on that day, is today here with us as chairperson of the Council of Elders”, President Akufo-Addo recounted, eulogising venerable Hackman Owusu-Agyeman who was the first national treasurer of the NPP.
