Supt Bernand Baba Ananga - Northern Regional Crime Officer

The Northern Regional Police Command has announced a search for the gunmen who raided the Dakpema palace in the Tamale metropolis earlier Monday morning, March 7, 2022.

The assailants fired several gunshots and injured the Dakpema, Naa Bawa Fuseini Bembarigu and several others also sustaining various degrees of gunshot wounds as a result.

The Chief was however rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical attention together with the other victims.

The Northern Regional Crime Officer, Supt Bernand Baba Ananga, who confirmed this to journalists, said the police have declared a manhunt for 15 people who were on board a white Toyota Hilux vehicle and perpetuated the crime.   

“Just this morning around 0505 hours our attention was drawn to a shooting incident at the Dakpema palace, and which we had information that the chief was hurt among five other people. So we quickly mobilize and proceeded to the place, our night duty men who were also on patrols heard the gunshots and quickly moved to the area and when they got there the people had already left the scene and we saw bullet wounds of the palace and we quickly moved to the Tamale Teaching Hospital to visit the injured persons” he said.

Supt Baba Ananga said the Dakpema was in stable condition when they visited him at the hospital, adding, “Apart from three others, one sustained gunshot wounds in the thigh, another one in the chest then the arm. There is also a sub Chief who is currently being treated elsewhere”.   

Meanwhile, the attackers also burnt a motorcycle packed at the palace purportedly for one of Dakpema’s sub Chiefs.

However, the palace is yet to comment on the incident.
