Citi Fm’s Umaru Sanda has shared an appreciation post, on his Twitter handle, of a girl he saved from getting married at the age of 13 years, 3 years ago.
“I’m proud to say Sadia has made me proud and I want you to help me thank God for saving this soul,” Umaru wrote on his timeline.
The media personality recounts the backlash he had to endure to save the young girl: “3 years ago, I told you how I incurred the wrath of some of my community members, particularly, the Muslims over an action I took to help prevent a 13 year old girl from being forced into marriage”.
Sadia, who is 16 years now, was taken away from her family in order to help her complete her basic education and has been returned to her family. She has been returned to her family as she prepares to get admission into Senior High School. Sadia is believed to be the second best student from the basic school she attended.
“The good news is that she has written and passed the BECE, emerging as the second best in her school… . We have returned her to her family which has assured as(us) that she would be allowed to continue with school. She chose my Tema Secondary School. I pray the computer places her there”.
The renowned journalist thanked the former Headmistress of his village school, the Doryumu Police, the Social Welfare Office at Dodowa and the wonderful team at the Prampram based Kinder Paradise home for their support and help.
