The cost of electricity in Ghana has been ranked the cheapest in West Africa and 9th in Africa for Ghanaian household consumption.

The world average price of electricity is pegged at $0.133 per kilowatt/hour for domestic users and $0.124 kilowatt (kWh) for business operators.

The Global Petrol Prices.com has disclosed Ghana is ranked 27th worldwide with the lowest cost of electricity.

The current cost of electricity in Ghana per kilowatt/hour for domestic users is 0.046 cents which is far lesser than a dollar.

According to global petrol ranking agency, the cost is cheaper in Ghana compared to charges in the United States of America which is 0.159, United Kingdom which sells at 0.265 and China selling at 0.083.

Meanwhile, the rankings come in the wake of utility providers proposing an increment of tariffs for electricity and water in the country.

As a result, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, PURC, is currently a nationwide public forums to engage stakeholders in that regard.

However, the proposals have been greeted with serious resistance by consumers who have also complained about the present economic hardship in the country and the woeful salary increment for public sector workers.
