The Ghana Police Service are on a manhunt to apprehend the youth of the National Democratic Congress who raided the Northern Regional Office of the party on Tuesday, August 23. The angry youth chased out staff of the secretariat, destroyed party properties and fired ammunition indiscriminately broad day light.
Personnel of the Northern Regional Police Command were however deployed swiftly to the place to restore law and order in the Tamale metropolis.
The Police Service in a statement on Wednesday has assured the public that the perpetrators would be brought to face justice.
The police have also urged everyone to always choose peaceful means to resolve grievances and differences rather than resorting to violence to undermine the peace and security of the region.
Background
The action of the assailants follows the appointment of Mr. Ali Adolf as the acting Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC after the demise of Chairman Ibrahim Mobila.
The NDC Northern Regional Secretary, Mohammed Abdul Salam justified the appointment was done in accordance with relevant provisions of the party’s constitution.
According to him, the decision was taken after the Functional Executive Committee met last Wednesday (August 18, 2022) in line articles 52 and 53 of the constitution.
The former Saboba District Chief Executive per the mandate given to him is supposed to be in the acting capacity until the NDC goes to elect new leadership for the party later this year.
Nonetheless, the angry youth said they are not ready any day to work with anyone short of Alhaji Alhassan Rufai Vellim.
They also threatened to deal with the Secretary and any other regional executive who will force Ali Adolf on them as the acting Chairman.
