President Nana Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured that government will continue to pay the teacher and nursing trainee allowance. He said the “Allawa” will not be canceled.

Addressing the management and students of the E.P College of Education in Bimbila yesterday Tuesday (August9, 2022) on the second day tour of the northern region, Nana Akufo-Addo acknowledged the concerns of whether the government will cancel the allowance.

“Your Allawa is Safe” he vehemently stated, adding there was nothing for the trainees to be worried about.

“Let me repeat it again, your allawa is safe and there is nothing to be worried about” he emphasized.

The current economic difficulties in Ghana have become grounds for some Civil Society Organizations including the Africa Education Watch think-tank calling on the government to seize the payment of the nursing and teacher training allowances.

The President during the visit commissioned an Administration Block for the E.P College of Education. He urged the Principal and management of the institution to put the facility to good use and ensure remains fit for purpose.

Some of the trainees in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN could not hide their excitement and thanked the President for the allowance.

The students indicated they were afraid that the government will cancel the allowance but the President’s assurance has given them some breathing space.

“Let me use myself as example, I take care of myself, so the allowance supports me a lot even it is not enough but it is importance” one of the trainees explained.
