Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the Northern Regional Minister has admonished members of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to contribute their quota towards a peaceful general election on December 7, 2024.

“Let us educate our family members, neighbours and co-workers, not to allow themselves to be lured by unscrupulous people into practices that would undermine the integrity of the polls” he said during this year’s May Day celebration on Wednesday, May 1, in Tamale.

The Minister further commended TUC for selecting the theme: “The role of workers and social partners in securing Peaceful Election for National Development”, underscoring the significance of the theme ahead of the national polls.

“Let me express my sincere gratitude to the Trades Union Congress for the selection of: “The role of workers and social partners in securing Peaceful Election for National Development” as the theme for this year’s celebration. Given that the country is preparing to hold its national elections this year, the significance of this theme cannot be over-emphasized” he stated.

Mr. Shani said the clarion call for a free, fair and transparent election is a collective responsibility and emphasized, “We all have a responsibility, together with the Government, the Security Services and the Electoral Commission, in ensuring a fair, transparent, and peaceful elections, for our sake and for the sake of the security of our country.”

The Regional Minister added, “Everywhere and every day, the clarion call and the desire of every well- meaning Ghanaian is for a fair, transparent and peaceful 2024 elections. And it is rightly so because this is the only way as Ghanaians, we can grow our democracy in peace, freedom and development.”

As Chairman of the Regional Security Council, Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu gave an assurance that the Akufo-Addo led administration will not renege on its responsibility of ensuring a free, transparent and peaceful 2024 elections.

“This year’s national elections will be the 9th since our return to democratic rule in 1992. I wish to acknowledge with gratitude that all the elections held had been touted as free, fair and peaceful by both the local and international election monitors” he stressed.
