The Northern Development Authority (NDA) has inaugurated a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound for the people of Kafaba, a community in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region.

The facility is one of the projects under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) through the Special Development Initiative of government spearheaded by the NDA.

It consists of an Out-patient Department (OPD), Child Welfare Unit, Consulting, Delivery, Store and Sluice rooms and semi-detached residential facility for the health personnel.

This will boost access to primary healthcare services in the predominantly farming community which is several kilometers away from Salaga, the East Gonja Municipality capital. The intervention satisfies the UN sustainable development goal three which highlights on Good Health and Well-being for all by 2030.

At a short ceremony to commission the facility, the NDA Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Projects and Programmes, Mr. Stephen Yir-eru Engmen assured that the authority is committed to bring quality healthcare services to doorsteps of the people through the IPEP initiative.

He added the NDA has procured 120 tricycle ambulances for distribution in the Northern/Savannah Ecological Zone. He said two of the machines have been allocated to the East Gonja municipality and that one of it has been given to the Kafaba health center to enable the efficient delivery of healthcare services in the community.

Advice

Mr. Stephen also implored the management of the facility to take care of the project to serve the intended purpose for the investment.

The East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, Richard Broni commended the Northern Development Authority for putting up the facility and noted it will go a long way to provide the healthcare needs of the people.

The Chief of the community, Kafabawura Seidu Yahaya also thanked the NDA for the initiative and also appealed for the expansion of the facility to meet the demands of the community.
