Delegates of the New Patriotic Party in the Savelugu constituency have welcomed Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the party. The governing party is expected to conduct its parliamentary primaries across all orphan constituencies between August 1 and December 2, 2023.

The NPP would have to elect a suitable candidate to recapture the Savelugu seat after the party lost it to the opposition National Democratic Congress in the 2020 general elections.

As a result, there is growing momentum in the constituency as to who would lead the New Patriotic Party into the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections.

The two leading political parties have nine seats apiece in the northern region and Savelugu is one of the constituencies the governing party has targeted to win in 2024 to add to their stock of nine seats to become majority party in the northern region.

Some grassroot executives of the NPP in an interaction with THE CUSTODIAN said they are solidly behind the young affable woman to become the 2024 NPP parliamentary candidate.

According to them, Hajia Fatahiya has provided hundreds of employment opportunities in the public sector to members of the party especially the youth and supported other individuals to pay their school fees to acquire tertiary education.

The Member of Parliament hopeful is reportedly constructing about 20 mechanized boreholes to improve access to portable drinking water in some underserved communities.

The beneficiary areas are Nabogu, Damdu, Bihinaayili, Disiga, Nayili fong-Diare, Bogu, Sanaa, Saakpem and Nyoglo.

The others include Yilikpani, Kambongtooni, Pong-Tamale, Dinga, Kpatuli, Kpalang, Lagos-Diare, Kpalyogu, Bunglung, Zosali and Kukuobila-Tamalgu.

Hajia Fatahiya is reported to have also facilitated the construction an ultramodern National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office complex for the municipality.

Meanwhile, similar testimonies about the generosity and philanthropic interventions of Hajia Fathia as she is called by her admirers are being expressed by members of the public.

“We’re pleased for this unprecedent and huge support because everyone knows Savelugu has a peculiar water problem for many years now and we cannot thank her [Hajia Fatahiya] enough for this massive development she is bringing to us” a constituent who identified herself as Azara Abukari said.

The staffer at the Office of the President is seen as the hope for the people of Savelugu and her popularity is attributed to the developmental initiatives she has embarked on in the area.

THE CUSTODIAN is closely monitoring the political activities of the NPP across the 9 orphan constituencies in the Northern Region which include Savelugu.
