At the closed of nominations last Thursday, August 10, a total of nineteen (19) individuals filed to contest the upcoming New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Primaries across the 9 orphan constituencies in the Northern Region.

Two persons however in their respective constituencies are going into the elections unopposed, meaning no one is contesting them for the slot to represent the NPP in the 2024 general elections.

Madam Felicia Tetteh emerged as the only candidate in the Sagnarigu constituency seeking to lead the governing party for another showdown with the opposition National Democratic Congress after her impressive performance in 2020.

But this time round, she would be contesting against a new entrant in the person Atta Issah who defeated the incumbent MP for the area, Hon A.B.A Fuseini to lead the NDC in next year’s general election.

Similarly, the District Chief Executive for Kumbungu, Hon Abdul-Salam Hamza Fataw also emerged as the only contestant in the Kumbungu constituency. He also performed creditably well as the Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP in the 2020 elections.

In the remaining seven constituencies however, more than one candidate has shown interest to represent the party to become Members of Parliament in those.

The Northern Region Director of Communications of the NPP, Mr. Yussif Danjumah, in a statement confirmed that, at least two persons have filed in the Savelugu, Tamale South, Tamale North, Tamale Central, Wulensi, Kpandai and Saboba constituencies to contest the primaries.

In the Savelugu constituency, Hajia Fathia Abdul Aziz is seeking the mandate of the NPP delegates to recapture the seat which was lost in bizarre circumstance by the former MP, Hon Abdul Samed Gunu who has also filed to try luck once again.
