The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Hon Sule Salifu, has insisted that the Tamale Central Constituency is a winnable seat for the New Patriotic Party. He has therefore called for unity among the rank and file of the party before, during and after the upcoming Parliamentary primaries.

“Nobody thought that Abu Jinapor could’ve won the Damongo seat; nobody thought Hon Anta could’ve won the Karaga but as of today that we’re speaking, these are Members of Parliament in those constituencies representing the New Patriotic Party and I am saying that with unity and the support of everybody, if we put our energies together, Tamale Central seat would be won by the NPP” he asserted.

Addressing Journalists after submitting his nomination forms on Thursday, August 10, to contest the Tamale Central constituency NPP Parliamentary primaries, Mr. Sule Salifu further cautioned his supporters to desist from attacking the other aspirants in the race.

“I am not ready to work with any supporter or any party executive who will attack any of the candidate, I want to work with them as brothers and sisters in the same family. I will support anybody especially those contesting with me should they win the elections as candidates for the Tamale Central constituency.”

He stressed, “I equally expect them to talk to their supporters to desist from doing that because like we all said, at the end of the day, we need each other to be able to come together to form a formidable team to win the Tamale Central seat, the seat is winnable”.

The governing NPP closed nominations on Thursday, 10th August, 2023, across orphan constituencies where the party opened the window for prospective candidates to pick forms to contest in the internal elections to represent the party in the 2024 general elections.

Meanwhile, the constituency elections committee have also called on the aspirants to be decorous in their campaign and promote peace and unity in the party throughout the period.

The Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Bashiru said the ultimate goal of the party to win the seat from Ibrahim Murtala of the National Democratic Congress.

The Yendi Member of Parliament, Farouk Aliu Mahama, MCE for Sagnarigu, Ahmed Yakubu Mohammed, Second Regional Vice Chairman of NPP, Alhaji Abdul Rahaman Salihu Mahama were among prominent personalities and polling station executives and electoral area coordinators were present to witness the filing process.   

In the Northern Region, the NPP won nine seats out of the 18 constituencies in the 2020 general elections. Therefore, they opened nominations in Tamale Central, Tamale South, Tamale North, Sagnarigu and Savelugu constituencies where the party has no sitting Members of Parliament.

The other orphan constituencies are, Kpandai, Kumbungu, Saboba and Wulensi constituencies.
