Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has roundly dismissed the campaign theory of the ‘butterfly man,’ Mr Alan Kyerematen ahead of the 2024 general election.

Nana Akomea who is also the Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC) and a former Minister of State entreated Mr. Kyerematen to tell Ghanaians what he can offer rather than continuously attack Dr. Bawumia and the party, which he was part of until recently.

Mr. Kyerematen who quit NPP after losing miserably in part one of the governing party’s presidential primary to contest as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election with his ‘butterfly movement’, has been attacking Vice President Bawumia and strangely, the government of President Nana Akufo-Addo in which he served as the Minister for Trade and Industry for over six years.

Speaking at a campaign rally last week, Mr. Kyerematen claimed that Dr. Bawumia as part of the Akufo-Addo presidential ticket, has done all that he could do and has nothing more or new to offer Ghanaians in the next four years.

However, in response, Nana Akomea pointed out that the former minister’s theory is not supported by the NPP delegates, the Ghanaian electorate as well as empirical evidence outside the country.

Responding on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo programme in Accra yesterday, Nana Akomea noted that the Ghanaian electorate have on two different occasions elected Vice Presidents John Atta Mills and John Mahama as Presidents of Ghana.

“Alan’s assertion cannot therefore be correct,” the Communications Director stressed.

Nana Akomea added that even NPP delegates have also, in the 2023 primaries, voted massively for Vice President Bawumia to succeed President Akufo-Addo against a field which included Mr. Kyerematen himself.

He further pointed out that the sitting presidents of Kenya and Tanzania earlier served as vice presidents, as well as President Biden of the United States.

“Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria also served earlier as Vice President of Nigeria before being elected president, among several other examples in history,” Nana Akomea reiterated.

He wondered how all these facts could have eluded Mr. Alan Kyerematen in his desperate quest to be president of Ghana.

Nana Akomea repeated his call on Kyerematen to get a better campaign message for Ghanaians.

He urged the incoming independent presidential candidate not to be throwing shades at Dr. Bawumia but concentrate on his core message, as that is what will be of interest to the Ghanaian electorate.

Nana Akomea also gave indication that Vice President Bawumia will soon outline to the nation, a compelling vision and action plan that will define his candidature and propel him to victory in December 2024.
