This year’s Christmas Charity programme of the West Accra Regional Council and Court of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall was held at the Awutu Prison Camp in the Central Region on Friday, December 1, 2023.

The aim was to spread joy to the inmates at the camp ahead of the festive season.

Members of the Noble Order donated bags of rice, cooking oil, palm oil, boxes of frozen chicken and fish, dried fish, gari, sugar, powdered milk, palm fruits, bleach, carbolic soap, anti-septic disinfectants, dish/hand washing soaps, powdered soaps, toothpastes and toothbrushes to the Camp.

In addition to the items, an undisclosed amount was also presented for the upkeep of the inmates.

The event was spearheaded by the Council 109 and Court 105, New Aplaku, and supported by Brothers and Sisters from the component Councils and Courts in the West Accra Region.

They included Council 48 and Court 40, Mataheko, Council 71 and Court 63, Dansoman and Council 139 and Court 132, Ngleshie Amanfro.

The West Accra Regional Grand Knight (RGK), Worthy Bro. John Eduafo Noma Enninful, supported by the Regional Noble Lady (RNL), Respected Lady Sis. Sheila Kwegyir-Afful highlighted the significance of charity as a core principle of the Noble Order, organised under the auspices of the Marshallan Relief and Development Services (MAREDES).

He said the goal of the charity was to bring smiles to the inmates, offering them a sense of joy and hope during the festive season.

Worthy Bro. Enninful asked the inmates to accept the reformation and rehabilitation process to allow easy transition and reintegration into life outside the prison system.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Cornelius Mwinsigteng, Officer-in-Charge – Awutu Prison Camp, expressed gratitude to the Noble Order for the continuous support and acknowledged the adoption of the Tailoring Unit at the Camp.

CSP Mwinsigteng emphasised the positive impact of such charitable initiatives on the lives of the 129 inmates within the Camp and commended the society for the gesture.
