Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP flagbearer for 2024 elections

Vice President and Flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has earned international media applause for his immense role in Ghana’s successful digitization drive in the last seven years.

Respected Pan African Magazine the New Africa Magazine, in its latest edition, described Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as a “passionate advocate” of Ghana’s digitisation drive.

In a special report, which focused on tje impact of Ghana’s digitization drive by the Akufo-Addo government, the New African Magazine credits Dr. the main driver and of Ghana’s digitization drive, as well as on the the African continent.

“At the centre of the drive for digital transformation is Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. With his evangelism for digitization and hands-on-approach to implementation, he has come to symbolise the drive,” wrote the New African Magazine.

“He is directly involved with the process, he is often present at launches and has become a passionate advocate for greater digitalisation Africa-wide,” Magazine added

“The 4th Industrial Revolution is a digital revolution, one that is based on data and systems,” the magazine quited Dr. Bawunia as having told Kenyan Television Netwotk (KTN News) in an interview in September, 2022 to highlught how Dr. has been advocating for the adoption of digitization by other African countries.

The New African report gave much insight into Ghana’s digitization journey by highlighting the key areas such as, the property address system, the digital national identity card, which offers Ghanaians unique national identity numbers and mobile money interoperability.

The report also pointed out how Ghana’s digitisation drive, which has transformed many government services online, is helping in raising revenue and also aiding the fight against corruption in many areas, including exposing ghost names on government payroll and significantly boosting revenue at passport office, drivers license authority, the ports, etc.

In its introduction to an extensive interview with Dr. Bawumia, the respected Magazine, regarded as the biggest African Magazine, added that Dr. Bawumia “has mostly dedicated himself to the digital transformation agenda, becoming the chief apostle, instigator and overseer of several landmark digitalisation projects that are slowly transforming how Ghanaians trade, access public services, interact with each other and travel.”
