The recently suspended Northern Regional Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Abdul Hamid popularly known as Alhaji Gbewaa has lost his mother in Tamale.

Information gathered by THE CUSTODIAN Online indicates the deceased passed on Friday, January 19, at the Tamale Teaching Hospital where she was receiving medical care. She is said to have been ill for some time now.

The NDC Regional Secretary, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Salam made the announcement on social media Saturday morning.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I bring to you the SAD NEWS of the passing to glory of Hajia Adamu Alhassan, the Mother of ALHAJI GBEWAA (“VICE CHAIRMAN”). The SAD event occurred late last night Friday 19th January 2024, after a short illness. The family have scheduled 10am this morning for burial in accordance with Islamic tradition” he announced.  

Mohammed Abdul Salam further called the general public particularly sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress to avail themselves to commiserate with the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Hajia Adamu Alhassan has since been buried in line with the Islamic tradition at the Tuutingli public cemetery.

Dozens of mourners in the northern region turned out in their numbers to witness the burial ceremony including regional and constituency executives of the NDC.

The embattled Vice Chairman whose membership in the NDC has been suspended for three months dominated in the media space for couple of days now for allegedly assaulting the regional treasurer of the party.

The Functional Executive Committee has further referred the matter to the National Disciplinary Committee for investigations and final determination. Chairman Gbewaa is also standing trial at the Tamale High Court for the same incident.
