John Mahama shaking hands with Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II

The 2024 Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Mahama has said the needs a competent, selfless, honest and truthful government that would come and lead Ghana out of the mess into which it has thrown into by the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government.

Mr. Mahama expressed confidence that the NDC has the men and women to turn the fortunes around and make the country stand back on its feet.

“Today, our country Ghana is in crisis and we all know the hardship and the pain and suffering that our people are going through and so the elections of 2024 (this year) is one of the most crucial elections in the history of Ghana. We need a competent government, we need a selfless government, we need an honest government, we need a truthful government that would come and lead Ghana out of the mess into which it has been thrown by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.”

The former President made these remarks in Yendi when he paid a courtesy call on the King of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari II, at the Gbewaa Palace on Monday, February 5, 2024, on day one of his Building Ghana tour of the northern region.

Mr. Mahama noted the National Democratic Congress as a social democratic party believes that power belongs to the people and serves in the interest of the ordinary Ghanaian.

“And so if the people must give that power to us to lead them, then we need to know what the people wants us to do with the power for them.”

He indicated this has therefore necessitated the Building Ghana tour to take the concerns and aspirations of Ghanaians and recognized bodies to build the party’s manifesto for the 2024 general elections for policy formulation when the NDC wins power.

“And so since 2020, anytime we are going to compile what political parties call our manifesto, we take our time and go round the country and take what the challenges and other issues of concern are for the mass of our people” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mahama has promised the Yaa Naa and the people of Yend that the next NDC government will prioritize the Yendi water project to end the perennial water crisis in the municipality.

He said his government will also continue the Yendi town roads and the eastern corridor road project to make transportation of good and services to boost economic activities.

Among the delegation of John Mahama included the NDC General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, NDC Members of Parliament, former Ministers and MMDCEs and bigwigs of the NDC among others.
