Central University has said it is working closely with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) following the arrest of five students over their alleged involvement in the production and sale of cannabis and cannabis-infused products on campus.
In a statement issued on June 19, 2026, the university said it had become aware of media reports concerning the students, who are currently in NACOC custody. The arrests are linked to an incident that reportedly occurred during activities associated with the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week celebrations.
“At this stage, the University is engaging with NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and obtain verified information regarding the circumstances surrounding the matter,” the statement, signed by the Registrar, said.
The university stressed that investigations remain ongoing and urged restraint, noting that management considers it important to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course.
The suspects, reportedly students in Levels 100, 300 and 400, were arrested following intelligence gathered on alleged illicit drug activities within the university community.
Preliminary investigations suggest the students were involved in the production and sale of cannabis-infused products, including ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper and eggs, in addition to the alleged sale of raw cannabis.
Authorities reportedly seized quantities of suspected narcotic substances during the operation. The items have been sent for forensic examination.
As a precautionary measure and to maintain order and safety on campus, Central University has suspended all remaining SRC Week activities pending a review of the incident and existing event management protocols.
NACOC has reiterated its commitment to tackling drug-related activities in educational institutions and warned students against engaging in the trafficking, sale or consumption of narcotic substances.
The five students are expected to assist with ongoing investigations as authorities seek to determine the full extent of the alleged operation and identify any other individuals who may be connected to it.
The university assured students, staff, parents, alumni and the general public that it is cooperating fully with investigators and remains committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline, safety and institutional integrity.
