Kwame Governs Agbodza has terminated the contract for the reconstruction of the Bogoso road project, citing the contractor’s poor performance and failure to meet agreed timelines.
The Roads and Highways Minister announced an inspection tour of road projects in the Western Region, where he expressed strong dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on the vital road corridor.
According to him, the contractor failed to meet key project deliverables despite repeated warnings and several opportunities to improve performance.
He stressed that the government could no longer continue to tolerate delays that were negatively affecting commuters, local businesses, and residents who rely heavily on the road.
Speaking during the tour, Agbodza explained that the contractor had been consistently urged to return to site and accelerate work but had shown little commitment to the project.
“He’s been persuaded on countless occasions… the Nananom have spoken, encouraging him, and he’s done less than 1% so far. He doesn’t show the commitment to do the work,” he said.
The Minister further indicated that the Chief Executive of the Ministry will initiate formal procedures to terminate the contract in accordance with regulatory requirements.
The Bogoso road is a key transport route supporting mining operations, commercial activities, and general movement within the Western Region. However, its deteriorated condition and prolonged delays in reconstruction have caused significant concern among road users and nearby communities.
Motorists and residents have long complained about the poor state of the road, particularly during the rainy season when certain sections become extremely difficult to navigate. Community leaders have also repeatedly called on authorities to speed up rehabilitation works to reduce accidents and ease transportation challenges.
Following the termination of the contract, the Ministry of Roads and Highways is expected to begin selecting a new contractor to take over and complete the project.
The Minister assured residents that the government remains committed to improving road infrastructure across the country and will ensure that future contractors adhere strictly to project timelines, quality standards, and accountability requirements.
