President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is engaging various stakeholders on safety measures that will allow an easing of restrictions without compromising the health of the country.
The President has has so far engaged the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) on potential measures for workplace safety.
Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who disclosed these at the COVID-19 update briefing at the Ministry on Thursday, noted that industry has already volunteered some measures that could be made mandatory in all places.
These measures, he said, are currently under consideration.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo is also engaging other sectors including the education community on potential post restriction measures to allow for the reopening of schools with adequate protection for students, faculties and non-teaching staff.
He said, “The President is very concerned about the status of the millions of Ghanaian students whose education is now challenged because of the restrictions.”
“He is, therefore, examining what it would take to ensure that learning and examination are not ultimately promised.
“He is also engaging the transport sector on how to ensure more compliance and safety on public transport,” he added.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that legal options are being considered to ensure stricter enforcement of the personal preventive etiquette including the wearing of a mask, which should soon be made public.
The Information Minister disclosed that football and golfing sports have also submitted proposals for potential easing approaches that will protect the population.
“Faith-based organizations have also submitted proposals on how religious activities could resume while protecting the population,” he added.
He expressed the government’s gratitude to all the stakeholders for their engagements and proposal but stressed the acceptance of the proposals does not that mean the restrictions have been lifted or amended.
“The restrictions remain in full force and offenders will be arrested and prosecuted,” he cautioned.
The engagements, he said, has to do with scenarios of lifting the restrictions and should be clearly understood as such.
