The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has donated a total of GH¢180,000 to support safety, education, and youth development initiatives in the Upper West Region.
A statement issued by Mr David Sebastian Damoah, Director, Media Relations, Parliamentary Service, on Sunday said, “While the Speaker mobilised GH¢100,000.00 toward the completion of a fence project for the Ghana National Fire Service Regional Headquarters, he also presented items worth over GH¢70,000.00 to Sombo Senior High School’s home economics department and administration, and GH¢10,000.00 to the Nadowli Kaleo Students Union (NADSU).”
Speaking at the event, Mr Bagbin said it was a rare opportunity to contribute to these three noble causes that were particularly dear to his heart.
He emphasised the need to prioritise safety, security, and the protection of lives and property, and urged Ghanaians not to overlook the critical role played by emergency services.
“The Ghana National Fire Service remains one institution that the nation cannot afford to treat with indifference,” they said.
Speaker Bagbin reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting policies and legislative measures aimed at retooling and equipping the Service to enhance its operational efficiency.
Commending the regional leadership of the Fire Service for their initiative and proactive efforts in mobilising resources, the Speaker expressed his confidence that the completed fence wall would significantly improve the security of the Regional Headquarters.
Speaker Bagbin called on individuals, corporate organisations, and other stakeholders to invest in the development of young people, particularly students, to help them realise their full potential. It also urged philanthropists to support the Ghana National Fire Service, stressing that “its work is essential to the safety and well-being of all citizens.”
