The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has commiserated with the Chiefs and people of Dagbon on the loss of the Paramount Chief of Mion, Naa Mahamadu Abdulai III.

The Mion lana passed on at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra where he was receiving medical care on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

The Vice President in a tribute in memory of the deceased on Facebook described the heir apparent to the Dagbon Kingship as a charismatic Chief of the Dagbon Traditional State.

“Yesterday, I received news of the sudden death of one of the charismatic chiefs of the Dagbon Kingdom, Mioŋ-Lana Alhaji Mahamadu Abdulai” he said.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia added, “I, together with the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, visited the Korle Bu Hospital to pay our last respects to the late Chief and to commiserate with his immediate family.

“I send my condolences to the King, Chiefs and people of Dagbon, to the immediate family of the late chief and the wider Abudu Family of Dagbon on this great loss.  May Allah accept his soul and grant him paradise.”

Meanwhile, Naa Mahamadu Abdulai III was enskinned as Mionlana on March 3, 2019, following the successful performance of the funeral rites of the late Ya Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV and Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II and the subsequent ascension of Ya Naa Abukari II as the King and Overlord of the Dagbon State.

Born in 1974, the Mion lana at age 14, was enskinned as Boling-Lana a day after his father; Ya Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV was buried at the Katini duu per the customs of Dagbon.

He died at age 48.
