Naa Abukari Andani exchanging pleasantry with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has presented a cash amount of GHS60,000 to victims of the Zakoli attack in the Yendi Municipality.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia made the donation  to the Community Chief, Naa Abukari Andani, on Sunday (April 17, 2022) for onward allocation to the deceased families and the individuals who also sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries and are receiving medical treatment at the Yendi government hospital.

Some unknown gunmen suspected to be Konkombas raided Zakoli broad day last Wednesday and killed eight nomadic herdsmen.

It is unclear what provoked the attack but some people linked it to an earlier armed robbery attack on an SHS teacher believed to be a Konkomba on the Yendi-Zabzugu road.

Four more people also got injured during the attacks. Again, several homes were burnt and properties including food crops, motorcycle were burnt completely.

The families of each of the deceased persons received five thousand cedis (GHS5,000) summing-up to GHS40,000 to assist in the funeral rites.

Each of the injured persons have also received GHS5,000 to support their medical bills and recovery.

In addition, the Vice President said the government will dispatch relief items this week to support the people to overcome the difficulties.

 Police investigation

Chief of the Community, Naa Abukari Andani has asked government to allow the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and arrest the perpetrators.

He asserted failure of this would result in reprisal worse of what happened.

 Fulanis Plea

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Fulani Community in Ghana, Alhaji Barry Yakubu Musah, last week called on the government to do more to protect the lives of members residing in the country.

According to him, the Fulani Community is a law-abiding group of people and therefore it would be unfair to brand an entire community bad just because of the actions of a few recalcitrant ones.

Mr. Barry made these remarks at Zakoli after engaging the Fulani communities that were attacked by unknown assailants.
