In accordance with the Dagbon tradition, the family of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama, former Vice President of the Republic Tuesday morning (April 12, 2022) organized the fourth day Islamic funeral for the late Second Lady of Ghana, Hajia Ramatu Mahama in Tamale.

The Chief Imam of northern region, Sheikh Abdul Salam Ahmed, led a host of other Islamic preachers to recite the Holy Quran and extensively prayed for the deceased and her husband, the former Vice President as well as the family and the nation as a whole.  

Meanwhile, the former Second Lady died last Thursday (April 7, 2022) at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra and was buried on Saturday at their private home in Tamale in accordance with Islamic tradition after a state funeral was held at the Independence Square.

This year marks exactly ten years after the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama passed on to glory.

Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama died at age 70.    

The ceremony was attended by religious leaders, Chiefs, politicians from the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, personalities from the academia and business associates.

Key among the dignitaries were Chief Executive Officer of Jospong Group of Companies, Dr Joseph Siaw, the Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, former Regional Ministers, Salifu Sa-eed and Ben Bukari Salifu, the Chief Executive Officer for NABCO, Dr Ibrahim Anyars and Mayor of Tamale, Sule Salifu.

Others included Ambassador Alhaji Yahaya Iddi Ahmed Rufai, Ghana’s former High Commissioner to Kuwait, appointees of government such as MMDCEs, former former DCE for Karaga, etc.  

Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai popularly known as Alhaji One One, a respected opinion leader seized the opportunity to call on politicians in the country to unite and uphold the peace and security, admonishing them to collaborate for the development of the country but not take intransigent positions for their personal and political interests to the detriment of the populace.
