President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the late Paramount Chief of Mion, Naa Mahamadu Abdulai III was a young man who had a good heart and was a lover of his people.

The President stated the heir apparent to the Dagbon Kingship was a respectful and obedient Chief to his Overlord, Ya Naa Abukari II and who was determined to do his bit to advance the welfare of the people of Dagbon.

Nana Akufo-Addo in a tribute on his official Facebook page in memory of the 48-year old Chief said, “On Thursday, 18th August 2022, the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, sent a delegation to Jubilee House, the seat of our nation’s presidency, to inform me of the death of Mion-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu, the Chief of Mion.”

“It is a sad day for Dagbon, and I express my deep, sincere condolences to the Yaa-Na, the family of the late Mion Lana, and the people of Dagbon. May the soul of Mion-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu rest in perfect peace” Nana Akufo-Addo prayed.

However, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces stated it is his hope that, when the funeral rites are concluded, all will co-operate to find a worthy successor to him as Mion Lana as it will be one of the best ways we can pay tribute and honour to his memory.

Meanwhile, the former Regent of Ya Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV died at age 48 after short illness at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

He has since been laid to rest at the Mion traditional capital, Sambu, in line with the customs and tradition of Dagbon. Preparations are also underway for the necessary rituals pertaining to his funeral.
