Minister for Health Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has been discharged from the hospital where he was being treated for COVID-19.
This was disclosed by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at a media briefing in Accra.
The Information Minister said he had spoken to Mr Agyeman-Manu who confirmed his discharge from the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.
He said the Minister for Health will now continue his recovery at home.
There were earlier contradicting reports that the Minister had not contracted the virus and was only ‘resting’ at the UGMC.
However, on Sunday, President Nana Akufo-Addo in his 11th address to the nation on his administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, confirmed that Agyeman-Manu had “contracted the virus in the line of duty.”
He called on Ghanaians to pray for the Health Minster and all others who are being treated for the novel coronavirus disease.
Agyeman-Manu expressed his gratitude to the President and other well-wishers.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the President and all Ghanaians for your well wishes and prayers. By the grace of God, I’m responding to treatment,” he said in a post on his Facebook timeline.
The confirmation of Mr Agyeman-Manu’s status makes him the third government official to have tested positive for COVID-19.
The other two are the former Mayor of Sekondi- Takoradi, Mr Anthony K. K. Sam, who succumbed to the disease on Friday, June 12; and Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Papa Owusu-Ankomah.
Papa Owusu-Ankomah has since recovered.
