The Member of Parliament hopeful on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tamale South constituency, Mr. Yakubu Yussif has given assurance that there will be needed development in the area if he is voted to represent the people in parliament on December 7.
According to him, the Minority Leader and MP for the constituency Haruna Iddrisu has not been able to bring the requisite development to the area because he has become power-drunk.
Mr Yussif explained that the people have continuously voted for the Tamale South lawmaker without any work done, making him inefficient and ineffective.
He noted that the impoverishment of the local people across the rural communities is no more the priority of Hon Haruna Iddrisu.
The NPP candidate accused the four-term legislator of failing to mitigate the suffering of the people who have entrusted their mandate to him.
Mr. Yussif who is also the Programmes Manager at the Business Development Ministry noted the minority leader has abused the mandate given him in the last 16 years by failing to provide basic amenities to improve the socioeconomic livelihood of the people.
“Before now, he used to promise that he will construct roads and other infrastructure projects but now he moves around telling people that it is not the work MPs to build roads. He has forgotten that an MP can lobby and facilitate for the construction of roads and other development initiatives to better the lives of his constituents” he argued.
The NPP Parliamentary Candidate in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN said it was unclear what the Tamale South lawmaker has been using the MP’s share of the District Assembly Common Fund to do and further challenged Mr. Iddrisu to account for his stewardship.
This was after he toured some registration centres with the Mayor of Tamale, Musah Iddrisu Superior.
Mr Yussif donated over 1,000 hand sanitizers and about 2,000 piece of nose/face masks to Electoral Commission (EC) staff, political party agents and some applicants present at various centres.
The Tamale South constituency is situated in the Tamale metropolis but the NPP MP hopeful noted that the incumbent MP has performed woefully to improve sanitation in the area.
According to him, many of the communities do not have public toilets and the few existing ones for several years, have not been rehabilitated.
This, he lamented, has forced some residents in the constituency to practice open defecation, exposing them to health hazards.
Mr Yussif said there is general poor sanitation practice in the constituency, scolding the legislator for failing to emulate his colleague MPs who always join their constituents to organize periodic cleanup exercises to keep their people safe and healthy.
“Even if the people of Tamale South organize any exercise and invite their MP, he won’t come!” he added.
This situation, he promised, will be a thing of the past if the people should give him the opportunity to lead them.
Mr Yussif also hinted of some projects that he said are in the pipeline and in the coming days would be executed to enhance growth and development.
He said the Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration is doing a lot and assured the Tamale South constituency will benefit from its share of the national cake.
