A Ghanaian-Chinese investor, Robert Tang Wei has refuted claims that he has encroached on any parcel of land allegedly belonging to Panbros Industries Limited, a salt-producing company in Gbawe-South West in the Greater Accra Region.
In various media reports, Panbros claimed ownership of the land being developed by Tang Wei, making allegations of harassment against the investor.
However, responding to the media reports in an exclusive interview with THE CUSTODIAN, Mr Tang Wei dismissed the allegations of harassment and also provided documentary evidence of ownership of the land including a verified Land Title Certificate.
Official documents from the Lands Commission (Land Registration Division), which this paper has sighted, indicated that the investor legally acquired the 116.88 acres land from Gbawe Kwartie Family.
Mr Tang Wei subsequently registered the said land with certificate number GA 76798.
Owners of Panbros, according to information gathered, started agitating over the land when the investor began the process of building a multi-million dollar estate comprising a plastic factory and roofing sheet manufacturing plant.
Mr Tang Wei has been in Ghana since 1998 and has since acquired Ghanaian nationality.
He has a series of investment portfolios in hotels, transportation, manufacturing, and retail outlets, providing thousands of jobs to Ghanaians and paying huge taxes to the national kitty.
He told this paper that the current investment is to help the communities around the enclave, as it will provide more employment to Ghanaians.
Alleged harassment dismissed
Mr Tang Wei dismissed allegations that he brought heavily armed officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Ghana Police Service and National Security to harass owners and workers of Panbros.
He maintained that he lawfully acquired the land and only sought security assistance after facing repeated resistance from the workers of the salt-producing company.
Mr Tang Wei pointed out that, as a naturalised citizen of Ghana and like any investor in the country, he deserves protection to secure his legally acquired property.
“I am for peace because as an investor, I know my business can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and that was why I sought the protection of the security agencies,” Mr Tang Wei emphasised.
This paper can confirm that before accepting the invitation of the investor, the National Security Secretariat verified the ownership of the said land.
This was confirmed in a letter dated 27th August, 2025, and signed by C/SUPOL Mr Osman Alhassan, Director of Investigations, and addressed to the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Accra.
“The National Security Council Secretariat presents its warmest greetings and request for assistance in determining the actual ownership of a parcel of land at Gbawe South West in the Greater Accra Region, which has become a subject of dispute being investigated at National Security Council Secretariat.
“It would be grateful if you could assist this outfit in determining the authenticity of the attached Land Title Certificate and whether the land in dispute has been registered at your outfit, and if so, in whose name it has been registered.
“It would also acquire the services of a surveyor from your outfit to help determine the boundaries of the said parcel of land in question,” the letter, which has been sighted by this paper, requested.
