President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, hosted Mr Makhtar Diop, the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), at the Presidency in Accra to discuss strengthening Ghana’s economy through strategic partnerships.
A statement issued by the Presidency said the discussions focused on scaling commercial agriculture in key sub-sectors such as cocoa, oil palm, and poultry.
They also covered fulfilling the Government’s policy to process at least 50 per cent of Ghana’s cocoa beans, other farm produce, and minerals locally.
Additionally, they addressed expanding the transport network, including railways, aviation, and roads, and advancing digital connectivity through the Big Push Infrastructure Development as well as critical challenges in the energy and education sectors.
President Mahama, joined by Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minister of Finance; Dr John Jinapor, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition and Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, highlighted the positive economic turnaround achieved through prudent management and strict fiscal discipline. This has led to a sharp drop in inflation, reduced national indebtedness, and restored investor confidence.
As part of bold transformative initiatives, the President announced that Ghana has secured a $300 million World Bank financing package dedicated to permanently phasing out the double-track system in Senior High Schools by the end of 2027.
The IFC Managing Director commended President Mahama for his commitment to decisive economic reforms that are reshaping Ghana’s financial outlook.
Mr Diop pledged the IFC’s full readiness to support Ghana’s commercial agriculture sector and broader efforts toward building a resilient, sustainable economy.
