Officer in charge of the Military Academy Health Center at Kpeshie, Accra says it is desirous of all military officers and their families to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Captain Adelaide Anakwa Awuku posited that the NHIS is a lifesaver, hence the need for everyone to join the Scheme’s active membership.

She spoke exclusively to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) media team on the day two of a Special Registration exercise held at the Military Academy's Health Centre.

Upon request, Officers from the Kpeshie NHIS district office set up there and registered new cadets scheduled for graduation in August, 2020. Instructors and their family members also participated in the two days exercise.

Some of the partakers expressed joy of joining the Scheme, explaining that their tight schedules prevented them from visiting the district offices to register.

According to the NHIS Kpeshie, district Manager, Wisdom Donkor, the Special Registration was

upon request from the military command. He described the event as productive and promised that there would be a mop up after the exercise.

NHIS officers on site distributed the Scheme’s handbooks and encouraged the participants to renew their membership using the Mobile Renewal Service dedicated short code *929#.

In compliance with the COVID-19 protocols, social distancing was strictly adhered to at the registration centre, where NHIS officers and the participants wore face masks.

Special Registration

A similar exercise was organized in commemoration of the Civil Service Weeklong celebrations in Accra, 2019. Ministers, Chief Directors, Staff of the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, and the general public participated.

Likewise, a considerable number of Chief Executive Officers (CEO’s) and Board Chairpersons of state owned institutions have also recently registered onto the Scheme.

This was at the Annual Retreat for CEOs and Board Chairpersons of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) held at Mankessim in the Central Region.

Equally, management and staff of 21 media houses in the Greater Accra Region have benefitted from the Special Registration exercise which forms part of the NHIA’s ambitious agenda to boost its membership drive.
