The National Identification Authority (NIA) will today Friday 10 July, begin a mob-up exercise to register Ghanaians who are 15 years and above and couldn’t register during the mass registration few months ago.

The exercise according to the NIA Director of Training, Mr. Abudu Abdul Ganiyu will be conducted simultaneously in the Northern, Savannah and North East regions and end on July 24.

The authority began the mob-up in the Upper East and Upper West regions where it recorded the lowest numbers during the mass registration.

The CUSTODIAN understands that more than 50% of the registerable population in these two now have their Ghana card. This, the NIA attributed to high level of enthusiasm.

Mr. Abudu Abdul Ganiyu disclosed in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN that the exercise will head next to the Oti and Volta regions combined with the Ashanti region. He added the next schedule thereof will be to the Greater Accra and the three regions of the former Brong Ahafo region.

The CUSTODIAN has gathered that the nationwide mob-up exercise is expected to conclude by middle of September 2020.

MOU signed

The National Identification Authority according to the Director of Training has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SSNIT, NHIS, GRA and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication as cognate institutions.

Mr. Abudu said the collaboration between the authority and these institutions is to establish NIA registration centers so that people at the regional and district capitals can easily register for their Ghana card at the district offices of these organizations.

“So therefore, beyond the mob-up that is what we are going to do so that eventually we captured every Ghanaian onto the National Identification register” he stressed.

Many citizens of the country has become anxious to register for the Ghana because the current Constitutional Instrument (CI 126) has recognize it as a source document before a Ghanaian can register for the voter’s ID card.

Covid-19 safety directives

The National Identification Authority senior staff said the authority is mindful about the pandemic and therefore has instituted measures to enforce the protocols.

He noted about 150 applicants will be admitted daily and given numbers in badges to avoid huge crowds at the centers and people would not allowed into the center without wearing nose mask.

Mr. Abudu assured the authority will implore all necessary measures together to captured 80% of the adult population of Ghana before end of 2020.
