I was paralyzed with stupefactive befuddlement after watching a video in which the chief of Kpone, Nii Tetteh Otu, snubbed His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for what he described as a failed promise to them.

No refined traditional ruler would exhibit such a level of disrespectful and uncouth behaviour towards the number one gentleman of the land.

The very project for which he is ‘mad’ about has been lying idle for years. Regimes have come and gone but none tackled same head-on. What did the chief do to those leaders?

Nii Tetteh Otu was under no compulsion to grace the sod-cutting ceremony with his presence and neither was it mandatory for him to honour the invitation to be at the durbar.

His crass behaviour and the manner in which he disregarded all forms of civilized traits expected in a traditional ruler points to one conclusion, and that is an ulterior motive well-rehearsed and executed for reasons not farfetched.

Stating what is obvious, the melodrama that ensued had the designs of partisan politics. In fact, this chief is being used as a cat’s-paw by the opposition NDC since he has long been a member of that family.

Such an untutored act could come from a chief whose political interests outweigh the interest of his subjects.

Chiefs belong to parties though our laws frown on their active participation. Even those who subtly endorse parties and others who openly campaign for the political parties they support do not show this level of irresponsible behaviour and disrespect to our political leaders.

Nii Laryea Afotey, the former MP of Kpone-Katamanso who turned chief, it must be emphasized, is part of those who schemed this uncivilized act. He and the Kpone chief are partners in crime against President Akufo-Addo during the visit.

All well-meaning, civilized and politically savvy chiefs would not indulge in this uncultured behaviour.

This NDC chief must apologize to the President of the Republic and the seat he occupies for his behaviour.

Such an insulting behaviour would never bring Mahama back to power. May God continue to bless His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
