President John Mahama has nominated former Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Hon Haruna Iddrisu, as the Minister-designate for Education in his latest release of Ministerial nominations.

A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting spokesman to the President dated Thursday (January 16, 2025) also announced the selection of eight other individuals into various sectors.

The MP for Adaklu, Governs Kwame Agbodza has been nominated to head the Roads and Highways Ministry. President Mahama has appointed the National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Opare Addo, to head the newly created Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment.

Eric Opoku has also been nominated as the Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture.

Madam Agnes Naa Momo Lartey (MP) is also heading to the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection with her decades of experience in governance, education, and women’s rights advocacy and legislative prowess.

Mr. Mahama also nominated Abla Dzifa Gomashie (MP) to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, a sector she comes with a rich background in promoting the Ghanaian cultural and tourism heritage.

Hon Ahmed Ibrahim (MP) will also be going to the newly merged Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.

Madam Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare (MP) has also been selected as the Minister-designate for the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry. Hon. Adjare takes over the Ministry with her vast experience in legal practice and international relations as a Lawyer. 

Hon Emelia Arthur (MP) is also the Minister-designate for the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Meanwhile, the nominations have been formally submitted to Parliament through Speaker Alban Bagbin for vetting by the Appointments Committee and subsequent approval.

This brings the number of sector Ministerial nominations to twelve with the previous high-profile nominations, including Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, John Jinapor, and Dr Ayine for key ministerial roles in Finance, Energy, and Justice, respectfully.
