The Ministry of Education has said the role of teachers is significant in actualizing the systemic changes to transform Ghana’s educational sector. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Ghana Teacher Prize 2022 in Tamale, Deputy Minister for Education, Rev John Ntim Fordjour explained the educational transformation refers to systemic changes in the prevailing educational model.
He further highlighted the theories that defend reforms or renovations of some elements of the model, maintaining the substance of the traditional teaching and learning process, and its organization and structure.
In view of this, the Deputy Minister who doubles as Member of Parliament for Assin South Constituency, said if teachers do not play their role in actualizing all these, there would not be any transformation, which has the tendency to stall the implementation of policies as far as education is concerned.
“This two day event will help us know what is happening in the Educational space and the new reforms which the Ministry has implemented. This government holds education at heart and has done a lot which we need to trumpet them out there. On this forum, we will learn a lot from our presenters, please feel free and ask all questions that bother you” he stated.
The theme for the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize is dubbed: “The Transformation of Education begins with Teachers”.
The Deputy Education Minister posited, “ The Ministry has consistently organized this award for almost three decades and since the National Teaching Council took over in the organization, we have seen tremendous innovations which have herald it with a lot of successes ranging from Ghanaian teachers winning international awards like AU Best teachers in the years 2019 and 2020.”
Rev John Ntim Fordjour also disclosed Three teachers have made it to the top 50 finalists and the top ten finalists of the prestigious Global Teacher Prize which will be organized under the theme: “”The transformation of Education begins with Teachers”.
“I would like to use this medium to appreciate NTC headed by Dr. Christian Addai-Poku for a yeoman’s job, kudos to you and your team” he added.
