The Local Council of Churches in the West Mamprusi Municipality (Walewale) of the North East Region have conferred a citation in honour of the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his distinguished leadership and commitment to improving the lives of all citizens.
The North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria, received the citation on behalf of the Vice President from the Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, Rev Paul Sumani on the sidelines of the 2022 Widow’s Summit, an initiative of the MP for Walewale, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu to widows in the constituency.
The Walewale Christian community also salutes the outstanding commitment of Dr Bawumia in serving as the ‘voice of Justice, Peace and love’ and promoting religious tolerance in the country.
The citation reads in full: “Whereas, it is a time honored local council of churches to honour those extraordinary individual who demonstrate a strong commitment to public, and greatly community services, improve the live of all citizens and whereas the Christian body, leadership and members of the local council of churches Walewale municipal host this year widows summit 2022, and therefore appreciates His Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, in grateful recognition of his strong and distinguished leadership and outstanding commitment to serving as the ‘voice of Justice, Peace and love’ for the churches and members of our community.
The statement continues, “Whereas, on behalf of the local council of churches, I salute and congratulate His Excellency Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as he is honored by the local council of churches. Now, therefore on behalf of the local council of churches of Walewale municipal, do hereby confer this citation on His Excellency Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.”
The Vice President has become one of Ghana’s leading politicians to champion peaceful coexistence between members of the two major religions in the country.
He has on numerous occasions preached religious tolerance in Ghana and participated in major activities of both Christians and Muslims.
