The Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty, Ya Naa Abukari II, has charged the Dagbon Youth Association (DAYA) to work assiduously to complement the peace and unity of Dagbon and the northern region as a whole, adding this will propel development and economic growth for everyone.

Addressing the newly sworn in executives of DAYA on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the Gbewa Palace, the King said the group must work in the collective interest of the people and relentlessly so to attract development and investment opportunities.

“I also want to advised that everything in this world is about patience and unity, when you’re united and tolerate divergent views, then all our aspirations before and now would be attained in order to restore our good image and dignity” Na Abukari II said.

He further welcomed the idea of revamping the Dagbon Youth Association after years of being in the doldrums reiterating the call on the executives to consolidate the peace and unity in the Dagbon traditional area.

“I am happy that the youth have decided to continue the work of their forebearers to contribute their quota to the development of Dagbon. This would encourage the younger generation to emulate the steps taken today so that in the near future they would also take up the responsibility to continue the work” the King added.

Meanwhile, the Ya Naa also advised the group against bitterness and rancor within their ranks, something, he observed would undermine the spirit of togetherness and oneness to pursue the course of development.

He further urged the group to broaden the horizon of their consultation and engage the immediate past executives, Chiefs and opinion leaders in their endeavors.

The DAYA President, Mr. Adam Baba issifu, for his part described the day as memorable one and said the admonishment from the Ya Naa would guide the group moving forward.

He noted the intention of the association first and famous is to consolidate the prevailing peace and unity to realize the needed development for everybody within the precincts of the ancient traditional area and beyond.

Mr. Baba Issifu added Dagbon has existed for several centuries, so therefore, it is incumbent upon the association to act well in their dealings and pass on to posterity what is befitting of Dagbon.

The President noted the group would take stock of the development gaps in the area and make conscious efforts to collaborate with both state and non-state development agencies to accelerate the growth and development in the area.
