The NPP Tamale South Parliamentary Aspirant, Mr Yakubu Yussif together with Mayor of Tamale, Mr Musah Iddrisu Superior inspecting the 1V1D projects

The Tamale South constituency New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament hopeful for the 2020 general elections, Mr. Yakubu Yussif and the Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale metropolis, Mr. Musah Iddrisu Superior have inspected the construction of four dams under the one village, one dam pro-poor flagship policy intervention in the constituency.

The projects are at various stages of completion at Kudula, Chashe, Bagliga/Bagliga-Dakpemyili and the Nyozee communities.

The 1V1D initiative is part of the one million dollar per constituency manifesto promise under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) being implemented by the ministry for Special Development Initiatives.

Mr. Yakubu Yussif believes the construction of these dams will help alleviate the poverty the beneficiary communities and boost economic status of the people.

He disclosed the construction of eight additional projects will commence in few weeks’ time.
The Programmes Manager at the Ministry for Business Development said the impact of these dams cannot be understated, explaining further that this is the only source of water for the people to use.

He noted that the project specification is designed to promote dry season farming in these areas as agriculture is the only economic activity of the people.

Mr Yussif assured the traditional leaders of the communities at separate meetings that, he is liaising with the Metropolitan Chief Executive and other state agencies to lobby more development projects and programmes to reduce the poverty margins in the constituency.

He further encouraged the community to collaborate with the contractor so that the work will complete as expected before the rains set in.

However, he urged the people to give President Nana Akufo-Addo another four-year mandate for accelerated development to thrive in the country and vote for him as Member of Parliament for the constituency to also have its share of the national cake.

For his part, the Mayor of Tamale, Mr. Musah Iddrisu Superior said it is only fair for the people to vote for the NPP Parliamentary Candidate and President Akufo Addo in the forthcoming elections because in his view, the government has prioritized the development aspirations of the people.

He stated that the one village one dam policy among other key policy interventions are engineered to eliminate or reduce poverty in the country and has also created an enabling environment for the economic independence of citizens.

Meanwhile, the Salia Razak Construction Agency working on the projects promised to complete the dams on time.

The contractor in charge, Mr. Hudu Amadu disclosed the dam at Kudula is left with phase two of the project, which he said is the graveling of the embankment and planting of grass along the banks.

He added the other three are expected to be completed within two weeks.

Some Elders and community members in these areas thanked Mr. Yakubu Yussif and the government for providing this relief to them. They said this will end the perennial water crisis in the communities especially in the dry season and believe it will also aid them to farm to mitigate their economic imbalance.
