Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has rolled the infrastructure debate back to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and challenged the opposition to also launch its own delivery tracker if it can.

He argued that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has, through the infrastructure townhall and delivery tracker website, brought transparency and accountability to the discussion on infrastructure.

According to him, the launch of the tracker website is an innovative medium the government is using to put together all the infrastructure development it has done across all the 260 districts to afford the populace opportunity to check the progress of work for themselves.

Speaking on the Kokrokoo Morning Show with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM yesterday, the Vice President challenged the NDC to also put up a similar website to show Ghanaians the work it claimed to have done while in power.

“They (NDC) keep telling us they have done 2,000 this or 2,000 that, which means they have the data. I am challenging them to put this on a website so we can interrogate it district by district. Kwami I tell you, they cannot do it because a lot of the projects they talk about do not exist.

“I challenge them to do it; it is good to criticize but it is more important to also show what you have done. They cannot show what they have done at this level of detail. They haven’t been able to. They should take the next two weeks to do it so we can also interrogate”, Vice President Bawumia challenged NDC.

He pointed out that the infrastructure tracker website is the first of its kind in the history of any Ghanaian government and indeed the only country in Africa to have done this.

Vice President Bawumia indicated that the tracker is going to be a live website that will be updated frequently as projects are completed and more are initiated.

“The information provides an opportunity for everybody to check. It is not like we have just come to state that we have done so many school blocks, we are showing you at the micro-level where each of these things is located,” he said.

According to him, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) provide the data which is put on the website but noted that sometimes the location of a project might be in error.

However, this, he noted, does not mean the project does not exist, stressing that these minor errors can be corrected as more information on these projects is uploaded on the site.
