Chief of Staff Mrs Osei-Opare (R) presenting the cheque to Ridge Hospital officials

Chief of Staff at the Presidency Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare yesterday presented a cheque of GH¢14,394,397.58 on behalf of President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo and the state to settle the full cost of the surgery of the conjoined twins at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

The donation was in fulfillment of a pledge by the President in July during a visit to the family of the twins and doctors who will perform the surgery.

Presenting the cheque to hospital officials, the Chief of Staff was hopeful the release of the money will now make way for the purchase of equipment to enable doctors perform the surgery on time to save the lives of the conjoined twins.

She said government was also on standby to provide all the needed support to the medical team in ensuring that the surgery is successful.

Mrs Osei-Opare however appealed to Ghanaians to support the twins, their family and the medical teams with prayers.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye received the cheque on behalf of the hospital and medical team.

He thanked President Akufo-Addo and government for the release of the funds and gave assurance that the medical team will do a good job in saving the lives of the conjoined twins.

Present at the ceremony were the Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and chairman of the Health Committee in Parliament, Nana Ayew Afriyie.
