The Northern Regional Minister together with the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and President of Northern Region House of Chiefs, Ya Naa Abukari II

The Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) has refuted assertions that the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, declined to honour an invitation to attend the Dagbon Development Committee meeting last Saturday, October 1, 2021, under the auspices of the Dagbon Traditional Council.

The RCC in a statement signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Mr. Issah Fuseini, for the Minister, expressed shock at the insinuations allegedly made on some media platforms that the Northern Region among other politicians in the region snubbed their invitation.

He said the Regional Coordinating Council never received any invitation to that effect.

“Even though the Honourable Minister was engaged in the confirmation of the Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu on that day, he would have still sent a representative to the said meeting in the worst scenario, if he had received any official invitation to the said meeting.

It is significant to note that Hon Shani Alhassan Shaibu as Regional Minister and a full blooded royal, has utmost respect for the dignity of the chieftaincy institution and has demonstrated this fact by building very close relationship and rapport with the Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya Naa Abukari II and all traditional palaces in the region” he explained.

He disclosed the Minister has been engaged in several discussions with the Ya Naa since last Friday pertaining to Dagbon and the country as a whole, adding the RCC has been yearning for initiatives that will propel development in the region.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state that the Minister will never engage in any act that will seek to undermine the authority of the Ya Naa and the traditional chieftaincy authority in the region” he emphasized.
