The Member of Parliament(MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has proclaimed that he is ready to support legal action against the Ministry of Communication and the National Communication Authority(NCA) by the end of this week if the deadline for the sim re-registration is not extended.

Hon. Sam George who is a Deputy Ranking member of the Communications Committee in Parliament has on numerous occasions stated his disagreement with using the National Identification Card as the sole document to register sim cards in Ghana.

Last year, the government, through the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization, directed that all Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards should be reregistered over a six-month period spanning October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 using the Ghana Card.

According to the NCA, over 9 million subscribers have completed their sim card registration in the country, more than 13 million have linked the National Identity Cards to their sims per the reports as of 11th March, 2022.

The Communication Raking member believes the deadline must be extended due to ‘obvious challenges facing Ghanaians’ and that Ghanaians ‘deserve better’ on his twitter handle.

Per the directive of the Government, Ghanaians have less that 15 days to complete their sim re-registration or lose their sim cards. As the days get closer, we wait to see what the NCA has to say about this.
