Government has announced that some 2,000 youth are to benefit from the phase one of the Garment and Apparel Module being rolled out by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
This, according to government, will contribute to sustainable jobs geared towards reducing the high unemployment rate in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the new module, which seeks to train beneficiaries in tailoring and dress making techniques in Kumasi, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei- Opare said government will provide beneficiaries with the necessary tools to ensure the smooth implementation of the module.
“The apparel module is a laudable initiative that plugs into government’s efforts at promoting technical and vocational sector as a viable alternative means of employment.
“At least 2000 Ghanaian youth in this phase will benefit. The good part of it is that on completion beneficiaries will be provided with the necessary start-up tools to enable them set up their own enterprises in order to make a meaningful livelihood out of their skills,” she added.
On his part the Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Kofi Baah Agyepong appealed to government for an increment in its financial allocation to make the Agency more efficient in its operations.
“It is on record that for the year 2023 the Youth Employment Agency projected to engage 71,500 youth throughout its program. I am delighted to announce that as of May 2023 the agency had engaged 84, 483 youth who are working and contributing to the various sectors of the economy.
“We cannot do this without additional funding. I will like to make a passionate appeal to our listening government that government must increase the financial support to the YEA to enable us roll out programmes for the youth,” he intimated.
